Join our Community Garden in the Centre of Canterbury

Updated: Jul 12

Right in the heart of Canterbury city centre, our Secret Community Garden is where a lively community gathers to grow a beautiful edible garden through sustainability, friendships, and happiness. Here’s a peek into our journey and how you can join us.

Our adventure began on May 5th, with a group of dedicated volunteers coming together to turn a neglected space into a green oasis. During our first gathering, we got to work clearing the area and getting to know each other. It was truly inspiring to see people from all walks of life united by the goal of creating a beautiful and sustainable garden for our community.

Our first gardening session was a total hit! It was amazing to see people from all backgrounds come together to care for this green space. The teamwork was incredible—tasks were completed quickly, and the whole area was tidied up in no time. A huge thanks to our fantastic volunteers for making it all possible!

There were more of us in our second session! With 16 enthusiastic volunteers, each bringing their unique skills and energy, we are transforming this space into a lush garden. We’re proud to say our efforts are not just carbon neutral but

carbon negative, thanks to our creative recycling techniques! From reclaimed garden beds to a lovely wood chip path from @found.wood, every step we take is towards sustainability. We even used tree cuttings and cardboard that would have been wasted to nurture our future veggies.

Embracing Permaculture Principles

We are all about promoting biodiversity and practicing regenerative gardening.

Our garden aims to be an edible paradise where delicious vegetables grow without chemicals. We’re committed to boosting food security and cutting our carbon footprint by growing locally and composting our organic waste.

Building Community and Well-being

Coming together in this green space helps us improve our physical health, strengthen community bonds, and enhance mental well-being. Join us for a cup of tea, a chat, and some peaceful climate action in our sustainable garden.

Spending time together, enjoying a cup of tea, and chatting about plants and more has never been more enjoyable. Our mission is more than just gardening—it’s about reconnecting with nature, boosting mental health, and building community through permaculture practices. Join us as we spread love, acceptance, and positive change!
